Display caller ID from phone on iPad?

Hey,

Is there any way to display the caller ID from my phone on the large iPad screen via Bluetooth?

I am thinking of doing this as I am considering the purchase of a car without the built-in Bluetooth audio system and mounting my iPad inside the car. I would preferably be able to answer calls from the iPad and use the iPad's built in mic and (via a 3.5mm cable) the built in audio system on the car. Even if it only displays the name and number that would be sufficient (I could use a headset).

I would probably use a Nokia N97 or N900 with this set up but am considering buying an iPhone. The iPad is jailbroken if that helps (Cydia app?).

A quick search on the App Store didn't reveal anything useful.

I wouldn't mind buying an additional plug for the dock connector or sth if that would help.

I had a Router once that had a PSTN connection for backup Wlan, It supported SS7 "Caller ID" data push as a broadcast over the network ports. Some standard modems PSTN support it but you need to trawl through the spec's first as SS7 varies slightly from country to country and the modems need specific initialisation strings so the read the data in the right fashion.

The 3Com/USRobotics range is usually a good choice for Caller Id compatable.

You would then need to design an App that listens out for the broadcasted data bursts on the network. Or look at ways of passing it from another mac to the iPad,iPhone. Personally an App would be better that listens directly to cut down on latency.

That seems to be only for 'home' phones, not mobile phones? And it looks like I'll have to connect the router to a Mac as well? Not going to work in a car methinks... but still, thanks :)

Shame I guess, as I just found out that Bluetooth isn't even an option (on a $80k+ [USD] Lexus it should be standard... but this is Hong Kong where there are basically no options). Aftermarket Bluetooth system?

Still open to suggestions...

Im still waiting to be able to receive/reply to texts from the ipad via bluetooth. if anyone ever makes this app atleast you have another good feature for it haha.
