Hi,

I have a launch-day iPhone X. Extremely happy with it. I have no "desire" or "want" for the new iPhone 11 beyond more battery life. I was planning on waiting one more year for 2020 iPhones.

Today, my display randomly turned to this after a run:

I contacted AppleSupport and was told it would cost me around $600 (more exact price if I took it in).

I know I cannot live with this for a year. Do I upgrade? If I do, it would be to the Pro since I am accustomed to the "premium" casing it shares with X.

Has anyone seen this issue before? Any idea what it is or caused by? Apple Support was no help (contacted 4 different people). Will it spread?

Appreciate all feedback, opinions, etc!

Thanks.

I have a launch day iPhone X. In the last month mine done the exact same thing only in the bottom left hand corner.

I just assumed I dropped it one night when I was drunk :-/
Interesting... Nice timing (I swear I am not a conspiracist ha).

Will you be upgrading? Or dealing with it?

There are 3 options.

1) your display failed and they can do a screen replacement. That’ll be $279.

2) Something else is wrong with your phone and they’ll be replacing it entirely. That’ll be $549 (not worth it IMO).

3) You cave in and decide to get a new phone. You can talk to the people at the Apple Store and see if they can give you at least some money for your current phone (I heard they were doing this).

Either way you should take it to the Genius Bar and they’ll tell you what they can do.

That screen is most definitely cracked. Maybe not the outer screen but definatly the inner.

That’s a unique notch sorry to hear man that sucks
Haha, indeed. Very unique.

Thank you. $300 or $600 I am thinking that I am better off upgrading...

That awful did you drop it? can i ask you for that gorgeous blur wallpaper?!
Absolutely.. It is the blurred version of my lock screen image. I will message it to you.

Ya I think upgrade. I have a small crack that I won’t bother replacing since it’s going to be over 300. With the screen plus the battery upgrade in 1 yr I’d rather just wait to upgrade.

Ya know, this makes me wonder if this is a design flaw that could start rearing its head more often with others coming up on 2 years, isn't the OLED panel like bent back sorta to accommodate the notch and curved corners? No expert but.. maybe the way some of these are assembled? merely speculating, but if there was no damage that caused this

Well for this poster the defect is the top. The curved oled is on the bottom.

gotcha

wasn't sure in relation to where this was thought it was possible it could be on top or bottom

and thought it was for sure folded on top to accommodate notch

Ya it’s pretty amazing what Apple did. No other manufacturers have matches the thinness where the display controller is (the bottom).
