Are you using Apple Dual-Link DVI Adapter with 30"ACD and experiencing screen flicker, most noticeable in dark areas, and screen distortion?

Has anyone experiencing image flickering that appears to be connected to graphic stressing?

Got a D700, connecting to 30"ACD via Dual-Link DVI TB Adapter.
It's displayed this since arrival.

Btw, ran diagnostics (came up clear), cleared SMC/PRAM to no avail. Monitor works A-O-K when connected directly via DVI to another computer or even a 1.03 via the Dual-Link DVI Adapter to a MBP.

Turning the screen 90 (only allows 800x1200) 180 degrees removes the flicker for a while.

Looks like THIS (not my video):
Or this.

Got an appointment at the Apple store today.

EDIT: I've just tested with a Thunderbolt Apple display and the problem wasn't there. I guess it has to do with the Dual-Link DVI Adapter. I heard they have a newer firmware version one.

Oh: Apple Support Article

So was at the Genius Bar today. They thought it was the cable too. Didn't test the machine, said to bring cable in tomorrow. Looks like I'll have to bring a great deal more than that. The firmware is on the Adapter is new.

Sounds like some software BS. Rotate 180 to fix? Anyone know how that's possible?

You have me really curious as I am using 4 30" ACDs with my older Mac Pro and should have my new one in a week. I wonder if I should bring my cables in. Can they update firmware on the cables?

If you have a 1.01 or 1.02 cable (check in System Profiler/Graphics) they'll switch it for 1.03 free of charge. I've heard of people doing this via phone/chat, and just get the new one shipped without return (since they're essentially bricks). I don't think they can update.

I rather think it has to do with driver implementation with regards to the new AMD graphics cards and ACD compatibility. If you turn 90 degrees, you can only use a low resolution. I think this bug was introduced with Mavericks.
Might be a problem with the drivers, mayhaps.

I have screen flickering issue on my 6 core D700 Mac Pro, at first it only
Did when I used Final Cut Pro x, when I applied filters/effects etc, en it started to worse. Downloaded heaven to rung GPU benchmark, however the flickering was extreme while running heaven, called apple, after few test, it then started to have startup issues, constantly restarting, at times it won't even get into the log in screen. Sometimes it will allow normal boot up, then suddenly the screen flickering starts, then the screen greys out and restarts.

Apple rep said it's mostly likely a hardware issue, booked appointment at the
Genius Bar. After diagnostics and other rest, even booting from external OSX, the said it's a hardware issue and I will need the machine replacing. So new Mac Pro in order with priority shipping date of 16-24 April #

Ordered dec 19th, I got the Mac Pro on 6th march, only used it for less than 2 weeks..

Sorry for your problems

Sorry that you have such serious problems after having to wait such a long time.
Some stubborn people insist in other threads, particularly the one concerning noisy computers, that these machines have none and people make up non existing problems. (Why should they?)
Your computer is a sad example of truly serious problems certainly not"made up"!
Sorry for that.
Hope you will receive soon a perfect one from the very beginning and for a very very very long time!

Wow, that sucks. I'm going to try to replace my Dual-Link DVI Adapter first. If that doesn't yield, It'll be the Genius Appt. For me to. :(

Thanks for coming forth.

Ordered Dec 28th, Shipped March 7th. I fret to think how long a new one will take to arrive.

From the reviews of the Dual-Link DVI to Minidisplay Port on the Apple Store website, it seems like even with the newest firmware the adapters are a hit-or-miss. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't.

Moreoften than not, this appears to be connected to ACD 30".
They (reviewers) suggest - If you get snow or distortions, get it replaced and see if it improves.

Other reviews suggest that the adapter is underpowered, so if you have the USB go through a powered hub, it might help things overall.

I'll report tonight if I was able to fix the problem in any way.

Alright, so I got my 1.03 adapter switched to another 1.03 adapter.
To make a fair test, wanted to stress the card a little so I ran skyrim for a bit.

So far so good - the flickering doesn't occur anymore............yet.

I'll report on this again tomorrow. Will be spending the evening with my beloved...mac pro :D
