macOS Display of colors in Java

I'm making a GUI using JPanel. When I use .setBackground, however, no colors show up. My program compiles, and colors do show up on other machines. I have a brand new MacBook Pro. Any ideas? Also, any ideas on solving this problem on other computers with the same issue, were I to make an applet.
