Display on Wattage,Display off Wattage?

I have been looking on the internet how much the display of a 24" iMac would use but I can not find it.
I am up to buying a new iMac but my concern is Power.
Since Apple announced that all of their panels would be LED backlight this year I might wait.
But,is a panel with LED backlight really that much less power consuming?
If I knew how much a 24" would consume (new iMac) I can make a disicion soon.
Now,is there anybody out there with a 24" iMac which can do the following test?
There are these devices which will log the power consumption of a connected device,the call them energy meters-logger or something simular.
Now,if you plug your imac into it it will log the power consumption.
I would like to know the power consumption with the display on and off,5 minutes would do the trick and I would be able to know if I would buy now instead of waiting again.
Anyone out there which could help me out with this.
Power is a major concern in my temporary Indonesian house,not the amount of usage but mains overload.
Any help is greatlly appreciated.

I'm not sure about the new imacs but until someone can give you a more definite answer, the white 24" imacs take about 100 watts screen on. I don't know about display off or sleep mode though. So there's your maximum.

Well,thats something.
Apple only says its max. power,they should give more on this,especially since preserving energy is such a big thing now.

Don't know about the new ones, but my old white 20" iMac (Core Duo) uses 120W with the screen on, and 40 with it off. I've measured it.
The new ones should use less because of more efficient screens and the new Core 2s.

Does anyone know of an app that might give us the current readings? I know you can do it easily in Linux, but I don't want to have to install another OS just to find out.

Also, Apple's specs page list the white iMac's maximum wattage as 220W, while the new aluminum iMac's are rated to run (max) at 280W. So while they probably aren't running anywhere near that on average, there's always the chance that they *could* be that high.

Now this helps me a lot.
I see its consuming about 75 watts when on and idle.
So,probably led backlit won't make that much of a difference,exept maybe a better display after a year or so.
