My wife and I are looking for a modestly sized external display for her 2017 13" MBA. She's an attorney, so the vast bulk of her work is text based: web searches, email, LINE messenger, legal documents, etc. No graphics, gaming or video production.

The display will sit on a small desk (100cm X 60cm) in our very small holiday condo. I think 21" would be appropriate.

Right now she has an ancient 21" (1080p) Samsung Syncmaster at her office. This display is adequate for what she does. I also have an ancient 21" Syncmaster at home. I use it mainly for terminal sessions so I don't much mind the green line that extends from top to bottom just to the right of center.

We've had such horrible luck with Samsung products that I doubt I'd buy another. (Three "smart" TVs on which the ARC has either failed or is annoyingly unreliable. I'm now on the 4th power supply for my Syncmaster display.)

The attorney doesn't need a stellar refresh rate or super high contrast or incredibly black blacks; just legible text.

I had a look at the LG 22MK430H-B. It is very inexpensive here in Thailand (about US$66). But then I read some horribly negative reviews. Perhaps that's always the case. I don't really need something that cheap, but my rich-lawyer spouse balks at spending too much money. (Even if it's my money.)

Thoughts and recommendations appreciated.
