Display spec help?

Hey all.

I'm shopping around for a new display to buy in maybe a few months. I have pretty much settled on the Dell 2407FPW 24" display. (Although suggestions are welcome as long as it also doubles as an HDTV.)

Anyway, i'm looking at the specs and I don't have any frame of refrence to go off of.

Does anyone know what the typical brightness and/or contrast ratios are for either the last 17" PowerBook or the plastic cased 20" Cinema display? MacBook Pro specs are also fine if they aren't too far off from the PowerBook.

Also, how is the color accuracy of the Dell 24" compared to an Apple Cinema? (I don't care about out of the box calibration, as I have a Spyder colorimeter, just the capability of the display.)

If doubling as a HDTV is a must, the Dell seems like a nice choice. If you want a nice display for movement the lower the response time, the better, thought the smaller displays will have faster times. Don't get too upset when you can't find a 23" or 24" display with a 8ns response time.

If you are going to use the display for color critical work, I do not reccomend the Dell. I was all set on it for video prodcution, then I started poking around he pro photo sites. The specs on the Dell are nice, but I understand that it's far too bright to calibrate properly.

The Lumious Landscape link might not be what you want to read. It wasn't what I wanted to read, my wallet had it's heart set on the Dell. If you do get the Dell let me know if you're able to calibrate it properly.
I'm just saving my bucks for a 23" ACD or the Sony 23" Premiere Pro.

It's not available everywhere yet but this Westinghouse monitor is the same resolution... albeit in the 37" box instead of 24"
it will retail for around $1500 which is pretty damn nice compared to the DELL 24 inch with only 2 inputs and 13 inches smaller!
its 1920x1080 resolution and has 6 HD inputs!!!! NICE

Only thing you would need with it is Digital Cable or satellite to get HD TV.
