Displaying video from ipod touch w/Apple Composite AV cable

I just got an ipod touch 2G for Christmas and really like it, but I'm having troubles with an accessory I bought for it. I want to view video from my iPod touch, but only the audio is being sent out. two days ago, I purchased the Apple Composite AV cable, because my television does not support component cables. I plug in the cables according to color and plug the USB end into my ipod, thinking that I can automatically unlock the TV-Out setting. However, when I play a test video from Youtube or a movie/tv episode, I cannot see the video. I tried unplugging the yellow cable and plugging it back in, but I don't get any video. Is there anything I can do, without needing to go to Apple?
