The Desktop & Screen Saver preferences pane no longer seems to work after I connected a Dell U3011 monitor to my 5870 using a straight Mini-DP to DisplayPort adapter.
Previously, I had it hooked up through DVI to a Dell 2407WFP-HC. It was set up to pick a random wallpaper out of my wallpaper folder upon login, which was working fine. But now with the new monitor and cable, when I log on something is wrong: the wallpaper changes randomly like it should, and then 0.5 seconds later the wallpaper always changes a second time to the default starry image (which is NOT in my wallpaper folder). The settings in the preferences pane also sometimes change inexplicably, so that the change-picture frequency changes itself to "every 30 minutes" instead of "when logging in", for example.
Setting a single wallpaper still works, but my issue is that the wallpaper-changing function doesn't work on the "when logging in" setting.
I've already tried deleting com.apple.desktop.plist. It didn't help. At this point I'm open to suggestions. Anybody know some good wallpaper-changing freeware for mac? The only ones I can find are either really old or designed to pull down images from the internet, which isn't what I need, since all my wallpapers are on hard disk.
