OK, I have a Mac Pro and 4 hard drives... 3 250's and 1 300. 1 250 is OSX boot, 1 250 is for OSX sorage... 1 250 is bootcamp, the 300 is for windows storage....

OK, EVERYTHING works perfectly when booting into Mac OS X...

But..

When I want to boot into Windows, sometimes I get a distorted screen..

Now, my video card is a 2nd run XT1900... my first XT1900 was a 1st run model that fried, but it worked perfectly when booting into windows.

With the replacement I got from apple, when I choose to restart into windows, 80% of the time when the black screen with "Windows XP" comes up it is distorted... I have to hold the power button to shut off the ssytem and then turn it on again. sometimes I have to do this 4 or 5 times before windows boots with no distortion.

However, no matter WHAT.. it ALWAYS boots fine into OS-X.

NOW... I have tried my stock nVidia 7300GT in the sytem and it boots BOTH operating systems with NO PROBLEMS whatsoever.....

Has anyone else had an issue like this with their XT1900?? Should I bug Apple again for another replacement???? Is there something I can do at home to fix it?

Sounds like a Windows issue then. Do you have good drivers installed (either from the latest BootCamp driver bundle, or downloaded from ATI)?

Yes, both the Apple Drivers (tried 1.1, 1.2, and 1.3 CD's) and ATI Bootcamp drivers from the web..

My mbp started doing the same thing. It started only in windows but now osx is distorted as well. I think it is a software issue because if i boot up windows or osx it has a problem but if i boot into windows and then tell bootcamp to restart in osx there isnt any distortion. Every once in a while it will boot into windows correctly but its few and far between. I think it might have to do with activx controller. thats just a guess but that was the last thing i remember installing on windows before this problem.

I had what is probably the same problem you have: low-res graphics with 4-bit color in bootcamp windows. This happened after applying the bootcamp 2.1 update. I have radeon x1600 on my mbp.

I fixed it by installing in windows drivers available from ATI: I googled for ATI bootcamp drivers, which yielded the correct software from ATI. Simply going to ATI's normal drivers download page yields software which claims that the ATI part in my mbp does isn't supported by that driver.

Graphics were restored to normal after installing these drivers and rebooting.

That ATI bootcamp driver page also has the catalyst control center software which allows detailed controls. It will not install and/or run correctly without the dot NET framework which you can download from microsoft.

I was able to fix all my problems with using my 1080p tv as an external monitor in a quasi-clamshell mode with the catalyst control center.
