Distributed Computing--CPU temp

I've started doing some distributed computing (through boinc). google it if you don't know what it is.

anyway, does anyone know about any negative effects of leaving this running for a long time? (hours or days)? At around idle, my iMac's processor temp lingers around 110 degrees F, but when i'm running the software it hangs around 148 or 150. is this detrimental to the processor in the long term? it's a 2.8 extreme.

IIRC, Intel specifies a maximum CPU temperature of 100 C (212 F).
If that's correct, 150 F shouldn't be a cause for concern. But don't
trust my memory -- check the specs at intel.com.

i have boinc running on pretty much all of my computers. on the 2.8ghz imac it is using 100% CPU, heat isnt really an issue it runs around 50-60°C.

on my mbp it will sit on 80°C no matter what % they are using (i have it set on 60% CPU usage)

on my g3 imac... i have no idea how hot that runs.. it gets darn hot tho, its been running it non stop for the past coupla years.

it will probably take some overall time off ur computer, but seriously its nothing. as for the burning out of overheating or whatever, ive never had it happen and it probably wont ever happen to me.
