Hi,
In my country i found about 2 resellers that sell a Mac Mini bracket to mount under the desk, but they cost fortune (80 USD). I saw some on Amazon, but they usually charge extra because switzerland is not in the EU.
Anyway so i figured i just build my own. After sketching some ideas, i went to some metal retailers and they didn't sell what i wanted, so i decided to just go to a hardware store and let my creativity go.
I had different options, but i wasn't planning on drilling a hole, i just want to mount it on under my desk with double sided tape that i have at home.
I ended up buying:
2x L-shaped metal piece 200x40 mm / about 1.50 USD for each
2x L-shaped metal piece 40x40 mm / about 80 Cents for each
I wanted to get a U-Shaped one but they didn't have it, and if they would have had something longer like 280x40 i would have bend it, but 200x40 was the longest they had.
Screws and bolts i had at home, i used M4x20 ( could be shorter like M4x10)
The long L-shaped metal piece, i got that from where i use to work for free, but I'm guessing it would cost about 8 USD. (800x6x3.5)
Then i measured off 2x 220mm pieces and took a saw...somebody is gonna be pissed when they see what i did to her garden chairs.
here it is
next thing is I'm going to ensemble where the Mac mini is gonna "stand" on.
i put some Tape around it, so i don't scratch the Mac when i put it in etc. like i said the screws are too long, i could have sawed them off, but I'm not really going to see this under the desk...
this is how it looks like finished, after about 10 -15 min of work. I know it doesn't look that great or that professional, but the cool thing is that if i ever need to add new stuff for instance a external drive, i can just add on to this. get another L-shaped thingy and add on, or even put it on top, its like a LEGO build set.
these are the tools i used
almost forgot to add the tape, and this is probably the most expensive part of it all, but of course i would have drilled a hole it would have been cheaper, but i can't drill in my desk.
this is how it looks like now, after spending another 5 min sticking it up and sliding the mac in
Hope you enjoyed this DIY and its probably not the nicest way, but it was fast and cheap.
In the future i might add another Bracket to it, so i can put my external hard drive on there too.
- cheers
