I need to replace the battery in my late-2013 rMBP due to swelling. The trackpad still works, but has limited clickiness, whilst the laptop itself rests on the aluminium backplate rather than the black rubber feet. I've read some stories and watched some DIY battery replacement videos where removing the backplate causes a lot of tension, making removal of additional screws difficult and subject to shearing. I'd like to avoid this, if possible, so I'm wondering if placing the MBP in a vise/clamp (with padding) would be advisable whilst removing the screws? Or is there something monumentally stupid that I've not thought about?

If possible I would take it to Apple and see what they may offer. I had an iPad Air which was swollen and they swapped it out for the price of a new battery ($100) instead of a standard repair ($250). It didn't hurt that this occurred around the time Samsung was dealing with their Galaxy Note devices catching on fire.

They want £200 that I don't have lying around, so the £50 DIY option is really the only viable option open to me at the moment.
