Is it possible to buy one that would work/be bootable if I needed to do a reinstall. How much, where can I get one? Thanks guys.

Right now I really wish I had a dual layer drive.

Where can I get them and how much do they cost? External would be fine.

btw, are all commercial DVDs more than 4.7gb?>

Hi, you could try dealmac or Amazon. As for the dvds yes so I mostly just take the main feature to get a "tickle" better quality of the video so instead of compressing 7.5GB it ends up being 5-6 GB that's compressed. I really don't like "extras" but that's just me ;)
As for external I have a LaCie 16x DL +/- that burns DL@4x (or maybe it's 6x) but any way I did this so if anything goes wrong I don't go without my iMac for a week. Plextor makes a nice external as well (my friend has one it's just $$$). Good luck ;)

For $45 you can get the LG GSA-4167B which does every format in existence, except for Mount Rainier.

I have the previous 4163B and it works fine with my Cube (it doesn't do DVD-R DL because it didn't exist then).

These drives also do DVD-RAM at 5X.

There are some firmware updates, but one probably needs a PC to flash.
