So, I've checked my TF2 download on Steam for Mac. It's going at a nice 35kb/s and it is 35% completed but at 200MB/5.2GB? erm... they got that calculation a little wrong. I prefer my 1-2MB/s DL speed.

Servers must be busy, I got a ~"Steam servers are too busy to download right now" message previously lol.

You get 35% completed cause some files are shared with other games like HL2 or Portal.

Try to click the pause button...wait a sec and click the resume button...probably you'll get a better DL speed (this worked for me yesterday..before pause@45kb/s, after @700kb/s..maybe it's only a coincidence, but give it a try :))

Ah that explains the 35%, unfortunately pausing and resuming didn't work for me :p

The game so isn't a 5.2 gig download. It went up to 7.8 gigs after an hour or two, but it was only around 3.2 or so, same thing happened with Portal, no idea why.

Yea, tf2 is definitely slow right now, it has been 7 hours and I am at 85%, currently downloading from HK. I cannot wait though, I never thought this moment would come! Hopefully no more crossover games!

Well, if you already have TF2 on a different computer. You can copy a few files across massively reducing download time:

You can find you files here:

[Mac's volume] /Users/******/Documents/Steam Content
[Windows volume] /Program Files (x86)/Steam/SteamApps

Copy the following files to your Mac's Steam Content folder:

team fortress 2 client content.gcf
team fortress 2 materials.gcf
team fortress 2 content.gcf

If you do not have Portal or Half-Life 2 on your Mac, you'll want to copy these files:

source sounds.gcf
source models.gcf
source materials.gcf
source 2007 shared sounds.gcf
source 2007 shared models.gcf
source 2007 shared materials.gcf

This should save you a massive amount of time when downloading!! Hope it helps!!

Yes, the US servers were slow last night. I downloaded mine from the Netherlands. It was quick. Pause your download, go to Steam prefs and change your download to Netherlands. Quit Steam, open back up and begin download again.

Thanks for the tip, it moved me up to 65% downloaded from 8%.

Edit: I didn't copy the section section, after I did, it increased to 99%. THANKS!
