I've been using iOS 12 for a few weeks now and can't figure out how these three features work and interact with each other. Two main questions:

1. Sometimes I wake up in the morning to the Good Morning screen, but most times I don't. What determines whether or not this screen is displayed?

2. In the Clock app, in the bedtime options, there is a toggle for "Do Not Disturb During Bedtime". In the Settings app, in the DND options, there is a toggle—which appears to be independent from the other one—for Bedtime. What's the difference between these toggles and what exactly do they do?

As for 1. it seems to always work here. Make sure to have location services set to always for weather.

2. The difference is how they‘re enabled. When you set a schedule in the settings app it will enable DnD for that timeframe. When you set the toggle in the bedtime options, it will enable DnD when your bedtime is active (and remove it when your bedtime ends after the alarm or after you finished your snooze). I only have the bedtime setting set because it is way more convenient to just enable/disable my bedtime alarm or adjust when it starts than to do that AND adjust the setting in the settings app.

As for Q 1, I have noticed that it works ok if I don’t use my phone during DND. If I use my phone during DND, I won’t see the ”Good morning” screen and weather symbol when DND disables.

I.e. lets say I have DND set to enable at 11 pm. Before bed time at 11.30 pm I sometimes unlock my phone to check some mail. Then I won’t get the ”Good morning” display at 6 am (when DND is set to disable itself).

I find it a little strange that unlocking the phone during DND stops the ”Good morning” screen.

Ohh, so scheduling DND in the Clock app sort of makes the scheduling in the Settings app redundant, assuming you want your DND schedule to align with your sleep, which I do. Sort of strange that they would allow two DND schedules. Anyway, I will disable my schedule in the Settings app and just rely on the Bedtime DND and see what happens.

Hmm...that might be it. This morning I got the Good Morning screen and I definitely didn't touch my phone all night. Hope they fix this though, since it makes no sense to deprive people of a Good Morning if they check their phone during the night.

It is terribly confusing even if you know how the settings work. Having a DND Bedtime mode and a Bedtime mode in the clock app only confuses people. The only reason I do not use the bedtime feature in the clock app is because even on the weekends I want the DND Bedtime mode to work, but I don't want the alarm to go off like it would with the clock bedtime setting.
