Many people use phones as Sat Nav, it's actively encouraged in some of the newer budget models with cradles etc so simply saying phones shouldn't be used in cars isn't realistic. I don't think it's a helpful addition really, just nannying.

It doesn’t interfere with the navigation or audio (music/podcasts) at all. They’ll continue to operate as normal; it just stops calls and messages from distracting you until you get to your destination.

In a few year the iPhone will drive your car anyway, so this function won't be needed anymore.

Then why release the feature if they haven't figured out how to make it work properly yet? Isn't that the kind of thing we used to laugh at Samsung for doing? Jobs would've delayed (as with copy/paste, multitasking, the iPhone itself, etc. etc.) until they perfected it.

Why whine on a forum when you're perfectly aware you can disable it?

The magic of Apple was that "it just worked". It wasn't extra clicks, software guess work, extra pop-ups, errors. Jobs would've said either we make something that KNOWS when you're driving or we don't release.

It never really, "just worked though". It simply worked far far better than any alternative but there were always issues. As devices and software have become more complicated and users have become more demanding the number of issues has increased slightly but the perception of things as being, "issues", has increased more. There really isn't a problem here, the device detects, as much as is possible with current technology, if a person is driving. It is not possible for the device to know with certainty. So it allows the user to easily override a false positive and, if the user never drives, or simply doesn't like the feature it can be disabled entirely.

This is a great feature and it’s well worth the one click inconvenience you are subjected to in an effort to make the roads even just a little safer.
