I thought I saw that with DNDWD enabled I would still be able to access music, podcasts, or maps. It doesn't appear to be so. Is this normal?

And also, I told it to turn on when it connected to my car's BT, but it didn't. I have an aftermarket BT adaptor from USA-Spec. Is this the reason why? Does it have to say Honda Link or whatever that's called?

Yes, it’s normal. It’s intended to stop you touching your phone at all. If you’re already playing music or navigating those activities continue. In cars with built in Bluetooth and steering wheel controls you can navigate music and podcast.

Apple have never quite clarified it as far as I know but, yes, it’s a reasonable assumption to think that there’s a “known car” list of AP’s, otherwise any old bluetooth speaker would could cause DNDWD to engage.

I asked the same question yesterday regarding Spotify and DNDWD

I have built in Bluetooth and steering wheel controls and when DNDWD is activated, my phone is
completely locked up.
Only way to access Spotify for me is to turn it on before I begin to drive.

Should I still be able to access and control Spotify from my steering wheel when DNDWD is turned on?

I believe so but I don’t use Spotify so can’t really answer for sure. Apple Music and Overcast are all I use in the car and they’ve both worked for me with steering wheel controls across Fords, Buicks, Chryslers, JEEPs and many others (I travel and rent cars a lot)

Are you saying that Apple Music and Overcast in all those vehicles when DNDWD is activated or did I misunderstand?

Spotify works great on my steering wheel also.
But now that I have DNDWD turned on, I try to access Spotify
and all I get this little slash, the minus sign if you will.

I’m saying that I was able to skip tracks and podcasts with the steering controls when DNDWD was activated.

Just to check I’m understanding correctly. You’re starting Spotify before setting off, driving away and then the steering wheel controls no longer function when DNDWD activates? If so, are you able to try another app at all, just to see if it’s an interaction with Spotify and DNDWD?

No, If start Spotify while parked, before I begin to drive and then DNDWD activates,
I'm able to control Spotify from my steering wheel with no problems.

Now if I start to drive first and DNDWD activates, then I can no longer access Spotify from my steering wheel.

Hope that made sense.

I don't have any other music or other apps I use while I'm driving.
Only app I use is Spotify.

What I haven't checked yet is if I can toggle/switch back and forth from XM radio to Spotify
and have Spotify still work.

Only reason I found Spotify wasn't working was because I received a phone call while I was
listening to Spotify. I answered the call and when I hung up, Spotify wasn't working anymore.

Yes, understand you perfectly. Unfortunately I don’t think I have any useful advice. In your shoes I’d probably try to get in touch with Spotify (if it’s systemic, chances are they know by now), file with Apple (a bigger ship that’s slower to turn unfortunately) and perhaps see if you can try the same in someone else’s car, to isolate that.

Sorry I can’t help more. Sounds frustrating.

So I’m not sure exactly what happened.
It honestly wasn’t working the way you described it should be working.

I took a leap of faith and decided to drive before I had Spotify working...

It worked just like you said.

A glitch?
A bug?

Who knows , but it’s working!

Thanks

Lol. I said it earlier tonight to someone else too. It’s the power of demo! If you mean it to break, it will work like a dream. If you’re trying to show something slick, guaranteed it will break down immediately ;)

Glad to hear it’s working. Let us know if it breaks again and maybe we can collectively discern some kind of pattern.
