Quick Question regarding DNS

We have a client who is running 10.6 server. They have dns setup and working under the domain test.com. The servers fqdn is mail.test.com

Everything works but we have one problem

Their website is hosted offsite so test.com doesn't resolve internally. How do I add a record in DNS so that if they go to test.com they will be redirected to the correct site and not get a 401 error

If I am understanding the situation correctly, then you can edit the clients /etc/hosts file to point to the right server.

But couldn't that be done in DNS Admin on the Server since it is running as the DNS server?

Does the DNS Admin allow you to edit the hosts file? I haven't dealt with DNS servers so not sure what the most appropriate way is.

I figured it out - rather simple and thought I would post to help anyone else

Stop DNS

Click on the primary zone line for test.com (the Primary zone name should be "test.com." (with a period) and not "mail.test.com"

Then Add an A record and enter www and the IP address for the website and save

Start DNS
