Hello All:

I have been thinking about switching to an all Windows/Android setup as I have been using these products for a while in combination with my Mac OSX/iOS setup both for work and personal use.

At present from using Windows/Android mostly it creates an environment that inspires me to do more and be more productive. This may be because I use it more however at the same time it delivers a "purpose" for me to do work. For example even the Windows 10 login page when you wake the computer from sleep has beautiful wallpapers that inspire you to greatness. Similar to Momentum Extension however its the detail of putting this that I appreciate.

Before when using the Mac, these products were beautifully designed and that inspired me to work and the simple designs made how I work think of the best simple solution. However it seems to have lost its charm and it is not a matter of being on one fence or the other as I use all platforms.

Has anyone else's Apple products lost their 'charm' in inspiring you to do your work and play and that you seek an alternative that provides this experience?

A thought I wanted to share and see your perspectives!

The most important thing for me is that the OS does what I want it to do in the way that I want, when I want to do it. Basicly a system that doesn't get in the way. I do not need my computer to show me beautiful pictures to get my work done, but I am not an artist either. Windows 10 on my computers tends to install drivers without asking me first and it doesn't integrate well with my nextcloud server like Mac and Linux does.

The windows CMD prompt is in my opinion a joke. You can't even use ssh from the Windows command line, without installing additional software. Never used powershell, so can´t comment on that. I prefer when the command line is more modular.

It will always be up to each individual person what they like to use in the end. We all use computers in different ways. I personally do not need a os with extra charm. macOs and Linux is charming enough for me :)

I'm in the same place as you, windows and windows laptops feels like they are made by people that care about actual people using their laptops, but maybe not as expertly as Apple used to do I'm really conflicted about it all.
It seems like it get's progressively harder and harder for me to still think of apple's initiatives as benevolent tech leadership growing a platform and taking care of it's users, much of it is a bunch of little things and many of them shouldn't even matter, but they do and when I hear Tim Cook praise Steve Jobs and his sense of vision and passion what struck me was not vision and passion, but that Jobs came off as a genuine person that believed in the people he made his products for and it's such a stark contrast to the Apple of today which seems to me to have very questionable vision, no passion for anything but money and absolutely not a care in the world for the people they make their products.

Maybe i'm just a closet hippie, or a hypocrite because earlier today I picked a mbp15 2017, instead of 2015 for work and it does not inspire me one bit at all. It just looks better in meetings. And I could be a better person - change jobs so I wont need OSX any more, but just as tim cook is selling the vision and passion of a time long gone for all he can rake in I want my easy paycheck too.

And I like lots of little things about OSX, and IOS, and iPhone X seems pretty good! but inspiring, no I really really wish.

Neither OS X, Windows, Apple or Microsoft inspires me to work.

A given OS can increase (or decrease) my efficiency, it does not make more creative or invigorate my creative juices. Its a tool, and a such there are tools which are better then others.

I don’t know about “work” but the Apple Pencil and iPad inspire me to draw and hash out ideas and concepts a lot more.

Haven’t drawn this much since high school / college.

Unfortunately, no.

As a designer, I used to marvel at the details Apple would put into both their software and hardware.

Now, for the most part, the attention to detail is gone.

Not as much as they used to. In the past it seemed like Apple tech 'got out of the way', now-a-days it seems more "in your face", in general.

I havent used their Pro apps, but I suspect in recent years they have focused less and less on that segment as well. Things which used to be simple and easy, such as iTunes and iMovie became so complicated that I dont even bother using them.

In short, i think Apple software has become way more complicated than they should be, but are still better(in general) than the competition.

Computing platforms do not inspire me. For me, inspiration has a better chance of manifestation when the tools I use help with a minimum of overhead. For me, at this point in the arc of life, these tools are Apple. <-- But they don't inspire me.
