Hiya, I bought an 8 in Florida on Launch day after an unfortunate incident with a Pool and my 6S (First time in 15 years i've EVER broken/damaged a phone)....not all bad though as I saved over £150

Anyway, I'm going back in May (live in the UK) and I was thinking of getting an X whilst i'm there

Do Apple take iPhone 8's in-store yet for Trade In?

Not interested in mailing it anywhere or Craigslist as I don't want to be meeting some random whilst on Holiday

If not, how long two you think it will be before they accept 8's as trade-in

They Do not accept trade-ins for the iPhone 8 as of yet. It's only up to the iPhone 7 currently. There is no way of knowing exactly when they will alter and or accept future iPhone 8/X models. Here is the link below that will show you more in detail:

$375 for my 256GB 7 Plus? Ha, what a joke.

Honestly for me though, I will take the trade-in. Because I would rather have the in-store gift card or credit then having to deal with eBay or those who try to Fraud those of their iPhones. So I'm perfectly fine with taking a loss on my iPhone if I were to use the trade-in program.

That’s fine and dandy IF you’re willing to accept less for your old device than what it is worth AND you don’t mind having to spend the funds received exclusively at Apple.
Apple would give me $175 for a 16GB iPhone 6 Plus that I sold outright for $260.
Add to this the fact that Apple gives you exactly $0 more for the bigger storage units. Isn’t that a peach. $100 to $200 more for more storage ain’t worth squat to Apple on a trade in. But you go ahead and GIVE them your old phone.

Don't see how you would get defrauded when dealing with cash and following common sense. You have the device, you're in a public place, they have the cash. Ever since the first iPhone, I have NEVER had a single problem (other than someone not showing up) off craigslist.

I have always sold via Craigslist to trade-up. Golden Rules:

1. Always public place (like a food court @ the mall)
2. Always cash, and nothing but cash
3. If they start asking for lower price after having agreed, move on to next buyer
4. Patience!

Agreed. I follow these rules and haven't had a bad Craigslist experience yet.

Of course, having said that, they'll find my beaten body in a ditch around the holiday season this year. :D

Did I not already state that? I already iterated that I was perfectly fine accepting the loss by trading in my old device at Apple for a gift card. Not Sure why you're Re-hashing something that I clearly answered my own prerogative or preferences.

Hence:

No, we understand. It just seems silly with all the complaints about (and not being directed at you whatsoever) the iPhone X being sooo expensive. At the end of the day, it is your loss not ours.\

In response to the original post though, Swappa is probably your best bet. I've used them twice, they have very good marketplace https://swappa.com/sell/apple-iphone-8

That's incorrect though. Because Apple does not accept the iPhone X or 8 for a trade-in. They only accept up to the iPhone 7 for trade-in.

I never mentioned selling on craigslist, I mentioned avoiding fraud on eBay. You interjected craigslist, not me.

I mentioned craigslist because you were worried about being scammed on eBay, it was just a suggestion.

Craigslist is an option if you want cash in hand. Although I typically don't sell my older devices as it is.

I had an iPhone listed both on craigslist and Swappa and tell you the truth, I only had deadbeats and flakey people inquire about the phone on craigslist. I even set up a meeting at the persons carrier so they could install a SIM card and confirm the phone worked properly and they never showed up. It sold on Swappa for the exact price I was asking within a week. Transaction went very smoothly and well worth the time. I would try craiglist again, I guess maybe I just had bad luck.

I was all about Swappa until a transaction went bad. Yes it was only one out of 10 but still left a very sour taste in my mouth to lose hundreds of $.

Definitely Swappa. I used them 3 times, all of which have been successful.

Totally understandable. All it takes is one negative experience.

Might I ask what happened how your transaction went poorly? I know Swappa has a better reputation Than eBay, it's just you don't hear much about Swappa experiences.

Why not sell the 8 in the UK just before you leave? As the UK price is now higher than the US price you’d surely make more from the sale. Just put an ad on Gumtree just before you go.

Every exchange and selling service had downsides - scamming is a huge business. You still have people doing fraudenelt payments with PayPal even with the protections they have in place. This is why I recommend craigslist and public place with friends to be with you. It’s worth not meeting someone for a non sale rather than getting scammed on many levels, especially with the odds. Don’t ever reply to those with “I’ll send you a cheque because it’s for my son who’s out of town” blah blah blah.

Actually, I avoid scamming altogether by either trading in my devices to a carrier or through Apple or just using them Until they are no longer operational. I never sell locally or online, ever.
