Do apps(Azureus/DTV) still run while computer is sleeping?

For instance, I hae Azureus and DTV running constantly downloading all my goodies and movies and stuff. But I have my laptop set to sleep after 30 minutes of inactivity or whatnot. Will Azureus and DTV still download my videos/files while my computer is asleep or not?

If not, then is there a way to setup Azureus and DTV to still download them while it's asleep? And is there any downside to my laptop staying on all the time and never sleeping?

When it's asleep, nothing's running. The only downside to keeping it always on is the inevitable cumulative wear and tear on components.
