Do apps corrupt the iphone?

So after a nonstop apple logo screen I got a replacement. One I got home I restored and it worked good. Installed a new app and bam, locked up my iphone and could not recover and had to restore. I had my 2nd iPhone for 3 days and restored 4 times. YES restored 4 times.

Tonight I deleted all the apps from itunes and restored again. Worked perfectly. Now slowly installing apps. Install one , disconnect the iphone , reconnect and sync up. If no issues I install one more app. So far so good. I have installed 6 of my 30 apps.

Iam starting to think that some apps may contribute to my main issue of locking up while instaling. Luckily I havnt locked up yet since but I am getting more gunshy of installing apps.

Could it be that one or more of the apps is doing something to the firmware that is corrupting it for future app installations?

I have currently on my iphone...five dice, bejeweled 2, netnewswire, labyrith LE, sudoku and Cube runner. Installed flawlessly and works fine. I want to keep installing but so afraid of locking up again because makes me restore and then thats an hour or more without my iPhone.

Thoughts?

Yeah, this is exactly what I've been going through. I've restored 33 times since July 11th, on two different phones. So unless I've just been really unlucky, I don't think it's the phone - it's got to be either the 2.0 software or iTunes. The latest iTunes update did nothing to help me, so now I'm just patiently waiting for 2.0.1 - if that doesn't help, I'll get new iPhones every f***ing week until they fix the problem. Sorry for my language, but this is really infuriating.

Here's a list of what I've done in terms of troubleshooting:

• Reinstall iTunes (7.7)
• Upgrade iTunes (7.7.1)
• Unplug USB hub, connect iPhone directly to rear USB port on iMac
• Delete all backups, set up as new phone (x25)
• Restore using different PC (x2)
• Get new iPhone
• Delete 5A347 firmware, re-download fresh copy
• Delete all apps from HDD, redownload through iTunes
• Disable app sync in iTunes, install one by one directly on iPhone (x3)
• Install apps one by one through iTunes only (no direct installs on iPhone)
• Leave iPhone off overnight, attempt reboot in morning (x2)

All to no avail. Both my first iPhone and the new one continue to freeze randomly (?) whenever I install/uninstall/upgrade any apps. And since I've spent more than $150 on apps (I generally install about 35 when I restore, which takes about a friggin' hour. PLUS the hour it takes to sync my media) the prospect of not being able to install/use them does not sit well with me.

Anyway, if anyone has any ideas (either for the OP or me) I'd love to hear them.

Having just got my 16gb Blackie I am reading way too many threads about people loading up there phone with various (important?) apps then complaining of problems.

I don't think these apps are being tested properly in the development stage before being released.

I like the idea of the Ebay interface app as I use Ebay quite a lot, but I don't at present want to risk trouble with my phone for the sack of some monkey dice drive the car and roll the ball game.

Well, that's your choice. But if installing apps is that risky (and it is, in my experience) isn't Apple setting themselves up for a class action lawsuit? I mean, if the phone doesn't function as advertised ... ?
