Hello,

App store newbie here. I know the app developers update their apps...do we have to buy after big updates? Does itunes update our apps? Do we have to visit the app developers websites to update?

thanks

You'll get a notification in iTunes, and you can choose to upgrade the apps if you want but you aren't required to.

I have dozens of paid and free apps, all the updates for them have been free. I don't think the developer can actually charge for an update, not quite sure about that.

However with the new 3.0 OS, the in app charges can be used as updates.
