Just wondering? I'm about to upgrade to a Perpendicular Hiatchi travelstar 160GB and was thinking I should be looking forward to a substantial speed increase.
no. it's not different. the technology is used with it is that has more density space inside of hard drive than non perpendicular hard. it's nothing to do with speed increase.

You are mistaken. The bits packed more densely DOES equate to a some speed gains at the same RPM. Bearfeats did some tests on various Macbook Pro drives (don't know the exact link) and in some cases the Hitachi 5400rpm drive outperformed the the 7200rpm one.
