Purchased a M1 Ultra Studio 64GB (coming from my i9 iMac 32GB that i still own) and after using it for 2 months i noticed a few things and i am wondering, If this is normal for the Studio? or if i should take it in to have it checked out?

1. I thought there was going to be a HUGE difference in performance from my i9 iMac. The only BIG speed improvement i see is when using FCP. Other normal tasks all seem the same, is this right when compared to an i9 iMac?

2. I notice random apps and settings will sometimes hang or freeze. Just today i updated to 13.2 and on restart it was stuck on the Apple boot screen and i had to do a hard restart.

3. Running 2 monitors ( Non-Apple displays, one over HDMI, one over thunderbolt ) The monitors will sometimes change from extend desktop to mirror. They will sometimes turn on HDR and my screens get dark, I have to reset them from time to time, This usually happens after a restart or waking from sleep.

4. When i put my Studio to sleep, Sometimes i have to do it 3 times for it to actually stay asleep.

and other random little bugs here and there. I am just curious if this is normal and if they are still ironing everything out? or if i should take my Studio in to get checked out. I did First-Aid and everything came back ok.

Thanks

1. This greatly depends on if you’re using optimized software or if you’re running Rosetta. FCP makes sense because it’s been optimized for Apple silicon and is native.

2-4. Could be driver issues and/or OS issues. Hard to know if it’s the machine itself.

"When i put my Studio to sleep, Sometimes i have to do it 3 times for it to actually stay asleep."

My advice:
Don't bother putting the Studio to sleep.
Just put THE DISPLAY to sleep. You can set it to do so when you push the pointer into a designated corner (I like the upper left).

Let the computer sit there "idling, but not asleep".

The levels of power consumed probably aren't that much different.

Mac OS is a pretty solid OS and if you are having hard crashes etc.. its the hardware. I would get it replaced before the warranty is up. I have uptimes of weeks until I have to reboot for the next OS X on my Mac Studio Ultra.

Something sounds off. I have an iMac Pro with 64GB RAM and the Studio with 64GB RAM. The Studio blows the iMac Pro out of the water in every task from the mundane to the complex (not that the iMac Pro is a slouch by any stretch).

Even running a few old apps under Rosetta on the Studio is faster than the iMac (though some apps don't work correctly - plugins, etc.). All the other problems you listed are problems with your particular setup, not the Mac Studio. What that problem is, I couldn't say without having the machine sitting right in front of me.

One decent way to try to figure it out is to start from scratch with an erase and install of the OS with absolutely no 3rd party apps. See if the problem(s) persist. If they don't, add your apps back one at a time and check everything until you come across the problem(s) – which should tell you where any potential problems are coming from.
