iPhone Do I have to restore before using evasi0n?

I read that OTA updates can cause trouble, I have OTA 7.0.4, should I restore my iPhone 5S?

Can I backup to iTunes, restore iPhone, jailbreak the phone, then restore from my backup? does it ruin the jailbreak?

Yes, do a restore.

Fwiw I always restore and set up as new. It's a pita but I know everything is clean.

I thought about that, but "starting over" after flashing a custom ROM on Android was a massive pain in the a**, I don't think I want to "start over" again, but thanks for the suggestion.
