Do I have to switch SIM cards?

Im going from a 7+ to an Xs Max. I know I didn’t have to switch SIM cards when I changed phones prior, but I also don’t really remember how my new phones became activated . I have T-Mobile if it makes a difference.

Nope remove old SIM and put into new phone.
