I'm purchasing a brand new IPP 12.9 64GB off ebay for £670, however a 256GB is £725. I was wondering if it's worth saving money and investing it in a nice stand to support my IPP for drawing and a good case instead?

This IPP will be used for productivity, such as drawing, photography and graphic design. It will 90% of the time be used at home, but there may be the odd occasions I take it out, but not much.

My internet is 80MB so it's fast and I have 50GB iCloud storage and 2TB Onedrive storage, so a lot of space on the cloud. I don't plan to store movies on the iPad either as I watch them on my PC (my main computer) but if I was to watch movies on the iPad, it would be via Netflix, Amazon or NowTV so I'd be streaming them.

I do plan to upgrade to the new iPad Pro this year if they make the switch to OLED too.

What do you think is best when cloud storage isn't a problem for me?

Ended up going for 64gb as I have tonnes of cloud storage and I'll always have wifi access as it's mostly for art and graphic design. That 256gb one was from Ireland so I'd be paying custom charges and next cheapest was £800 which was out of my budget. This will be fine until the next gen if they go with OLED.

If you are a professional graphic artist producing print quality work (high resolution) you may need a external drive to off load your projects such as cloud storage, secondary computer, or flash drives (yes there are lightning port type flash drives). If you a videographer or multimedia mobile journalist you may also want external drives to store your finished projects. If you are none of those then 64GB is good enough for most people.
Saving money is not a crime.

I looked at apps like procreate and affinity, they take up minimal storage. It's just storage for the files that use those apps and a couple of games. I store my music and stream from my iphone and I watch the latest movies on my PC, but will stream on the iPad. I can always transfer to my 2TB Onedrive or my PC so all is good.

Thanks for your response!

Don’t get the 265gb unless you’re storing movies or music on it. I’ve only used about 30gb and I regret so much that I’ve wasted money on so much storage, but then again you have to make that mistake in order to figure out how much you need in the future.

I have only 32GB on my 9.7” Pro and manage fine, just stream everything and the storage is used for the email cache and games and apps. I would upgrade to the 64GB fine. As you say lots of cloud storage plus you can get wireless hard drives that the iPad can access now, so in effect you can expand its storage for files etc.

In the past i all ways got the 128gb option and the earlier models the 64gb. After using them for awhile I realized it was uneeded. My last one the iPad Air 1 I had 128gb for 4 years and never breached 64gb usuage.

The 12.9 256gb (my first pro) I bought in December has changed the way I use it. I’m doing allot more work and photo editing on this one. Also keeping movies and allot of music. For the simple fact of now being able to use an iPad more as a computer/companion. I currently have 84gb used without even fully loading it for work stuff and still experimenting on what all I can transfer work wise to this.

Also imo iOS will continue to move more towards laptop functionally with the competition pushing Apple that way from competition. Either adapt or move to the back of the line. I think in the coming year storage needs will grow exponentially as we move towards this. So imo getting 64gb instead of 256 could cripple the device future proof wise.

Edit: i do have the 50gb iCloud storage and maybe I’m a little old school still but i like having my most used stuff locally.
