do I need screen protection

I have read about screen protection and I'm a bit unsure if I need it or not. I thought the screen was made of some sort of glass, therefore virtually scratch proof, if so then why the need for protection?
Also, again I have seen load sof things about cases, do I need one? Do I need a screen protector and case mates!?

Having screen protection for an iPod touch is unnecessary, but having a cleaning device is very handy. As for the case, this will cushion any damage, but will make the device bulkier. It depends on what you want- grip and safety, or smoothness and simplicity.

I use a screen protector. It has already saved my iPod from a serious scratch from a set of keys (I am now on the second screen protector). For around $5 it is cheap and effective against accidental damage. Glass isn't diamond... it can be scratched.

I also have a plastic case that clips around the back and over the edges of the iPod.

For cleaning, I recommend picking up a microfiber cloth wherever eyeglass accessories are sold.
 
I've carried my iphone in my front pocket for 1.5 years now with absolutely no scratches on the screen. I use a silicone case to protect it when I drop it.

My wife had a screen protector on hers and it the screen protector got all scratched up within a couple weeks and looked terrible. She removed hers and also doesn't have and scratches.

If you carry it in your pocket most of the time then i think you should get one. If not don't worry about it. I had a unprotected screen for about 6 months and got a small deep scratch after front pocket carrying.
 
I have no scratches on my screen, and in day-to-day use, you won't get any either.

Unless you drop it or something. In which case pretty much anything will get scratched. :D

Getting a case for the iPod is worth it, the metal back scratches very very very very easily, I have hundreds of tiny hairline scratches on the back of my iPod, and I've never dropped it and I actually take very special care of it.

Anyway, back to your question... in my opinion, no, you don't need screen protection.
 
I know the 1G iphone had glass covers. One of my good friends was getting out of my car and forgot that his iPhone was on his lap... Long story short... Spider cracks all over the screen... Looks like a baseball through a windshield....:apple:
 
You will regret it if you dont get a screen protector i already got a deep scratch on my screen that makes a rainbow effect get one please for the sake of your iPod!
 
The touch screen of iPod Touch and iPhone are designed for anti-scratch
They are even harder than the back

I don't recommend you to buy a $10 screen film just for "protection" (xD)
unless you want to change the quality of the screen, like anti-glare or mirror film.

IMO, a good crystal film doesn't worth at all, but a good case! for the body.
 
yes the screen is made of glass but even glass can be scratched
for me I also got an antiglare version so I don't get so much reflection

and for cases, the ipod touch is quite fragile, one drop on concrete can destroy the screen or mess up the accelerometer or misalign the touch interface or dent the back and damage some internal components, when getting a case think about every possibilty, main thing people miss is making sure the front if the case is higher then the screen( so when you put it face down the screen isn't touching

A lot of people seem to be saying they got a screen protector and were so glad because they're screen had little scratches all over it after a few months, so they replaced the protector. BUT did it ever occur to those with screen protectors that the reason why the screen go those mini scratches was because of the screen protector?

Screen proctectors are far more prone to scratching than the strong glass screen of the iTouch Pod. So i;ve decided to skip the screen protector and go with the natural feel. I do have a silicon case on it. The only thing im worried about is dropping the device- I seem to be prone to dropping things, dropped my iClassic a few times, it's fine, but a lot more can go wrong with the iTouch.
 
I've used all different kinds of screen protectors on mine. While they are nice to help protect the screen, I can never put them on right and get air bubbles, or weird little scratch marks from the device that is supposed to rub out the air bubbles. This last time I bought an Invisi Shield for $20ish. Great protection for the back of the Touch, but the front shield was a joke. I just ended up buying a case to cover the back and have left the screen sans cover. Easier to clean. Will it scratch, probably. But then it gives me an excuse to buy a new ipod whenever new ones come out.
SPend the money on a nice case for it.
 
I just got the 32gb 3rd Gen iPod touch for Christmas. The screen is different than my old 1st gen iPod touch. Seems like this one doesn't need a screen portector I would think. I would just protect the back with a nice case or skin Gelaskin or Decalgirl and call it a day.

now you're most likely not going to get a big scratch on it
but more likely you'll get slow abrasion ware on it just look at any old piece of glass
 
Absolutely.

a) It's all marketing. The oleophobic (sp) coating shows tons of prints and oil.

b) It's all marketing. Every iPhone I've owned has received some degree of scratch on the screen.

c) Once its there you can peel away the scratched protector and look new or live with a glaring scratch until you buy again.

I have a screen protector... It helps alot with no scratches. If you are unsure, I would get the universal screeen protectors! They are REALLY cheap and affordable. YOu can use them on any device:)
 
i got a case that came with a screen protector, seemed like an obvious decision. spent about 20 minutes cleaning the device, and it went on with no bubbles, and looks great. the only drawback i find is, the viewing angle is slightly reduced. but i would rather leave this on, as it is extra security and peace of mind in case of an accident.
