Ok, I am writing this post, because I have been viewing this forum for sometime, and love everything I read about people with their new macs. Now, I know, EVERY OS SUCKS, its just the way it is, but I think, for what i want, Mac sucks a lot less than windows. Please tell me if I need a mac in my life. I grew up with PCs, and loved it all, macs sucked and I loved my PCs (i am 18 btw at FSU). Now, I dont need to play games, instal linux for no reason, or play with longhorn. I just want to do what i want to do. Now that I am in college, and sooner or later, "life" I dont have time, for a POS that wont work. I have a brand new Cingular 2125 windows mobile 5 phone, LOVE IT, but the microsoft part blows. I tired syncing it with my friends 17" powerbook, PERFECT, just two seconds on the net with GPRS and with a program online, I can sync my contacts and calendar. This summer, I am working, and thinking about buying a sweet macbook, and SWITCHING. I will always have a PC desktop in my aparment for other random windows stuff, so no prob there. Its just, I want a nice computer that i can take with me, that goes on the net, aim client, calendar, music, contacts, and photo software for my nikon D70. I am sick of my PC not doing simple things, there is nothing wrong with windows, just it has to do so MANY things, it gives up simple things which is what i want. I love MAC os x and am going to buy one, i just am sick of a computer not doing what i want it to do. and that is not too much to ask for. I am tired of "unexpect errors" and errors that windows tells me, but how am I supposed to fix them. Is this normal, do I need a mac, why do you people have them???

I want a Mac!!!!!!!!!! :(

Definitely go for a Mac. I was always a PC person until my boss bought me a G3 iBook and now I'm on a 15' Powerbook and still love it.

Yeah, it's cool that it just works, so you can get some actual work done, instead of fixing Windows.

I have had jobs setting up windows machines, fixing them etc., so I know how to do it, I just don't like it. Time is to precious to spend it fixing Windows.

The only advantage my old windows desktop machine (which isn't even set up and I haven't used for months) has, is that it plays more games, and the hardware is a bit cheaper.

Get a mac! :D

I work with Windows boxes all the time and I have to say they work just as well as my Macs, so saying buy a Mac because they are more stable Windows just isn't a reason.

On the other hand OS X is great fun, it's a UNIX like OS so it can do a heap more geeky stuff than Windows, basically I think Windows is a good enough OS, but if you want a fun OS go buy a Mac now.

yeah, i think i just want a change, and i love looking at OS X

I'm switching too. I'm still working with windows until my MacBook Pro arrives, I cant wait, I'm itchy, it's killing me.

I work a lot with Linux, so a macbook pro should go well with the stuff i need to do.. and who says you cant play games on a mac? all the good titles are available!

Basically I want to buy a new laptop, whatever brand, but after looking, trying, etc... not a single machine I looked at came even close to the 'quality' of a mac. (I only had the chance to play with some powerbooks, coz macbooks werent available)... i pre-ordered a macbook pro before even seeing or owning a mac.

I have one because it just works. I had continuous problems with my last Compaq running W2K, the more stable of any Windows OS. Since my switch 1 1/2 years ago, I have had zero problems. Macs are fun and easy to use. Plus they come with some great software like Garageband that's really cool to play around with.

Sounds like your needs for a portable device will be met nicely with an Apple computer. Go for it...

Do it......do it.

yup, I will, after saving money, I will have something to look forward too after this summer. I just got back from my scuba diving class, and my "dial" up connection for my 2125 is popping up even tho i have the lan connected and when I tried to update quicken, it messed up with errors. I am tired of PCs, i want a mac.

What macbook will they have by julyish???

No one knows excactly, even Apple.

But the rumours says, a 17" version of the MacBook Pro will be available by then. Maybe they will bump the specs on the 15" version by then - or lower the price.

And probably, a MacBook (non pro) will be available by then.

Fair warning, once you use OS X and go back to using Windows (for whatever reason) you'll find yourself even more disgusted with Windows than before. You'll find yourself wanting to spend less and less time on the OS and refusing to troubleshoot some of the more "simple" problems that Windows encounters.

Sounds like you have your mind made up. Be sure to post and let us know what you end up going with when you switch. :D

Don't worry, I will have a complete "switch" post when I do with pics and everything. To make it simple, as a college student, heading into the world, I don't have time to fix an OS to do simple tasks.

I don't think I will end up with the 17" because at home, I will be using a large digital LCD, so when I am portable, screen is ok at 15.4. Hopefully the price/features will improve as Dr_Maybe said.

Thanks guys, I already feel welcomed to the board, as well as the mac world. See, another great advantage of using a mac.

You know a program that syncs a WM5.0 smartphone with OS X?

Also, could you tell me how you tethered the 2125 to the PB (BT or USB?) and the settings you used. I'm about to move to the boonies without cable/dsl availability and EDGE/GPRS will gonna be my only option for internet access.

Thanks in advance. :)

I think this is a slight exaggeration, OS X has flaws, but it certainly doesn't SUCK.

Then that's all the convincing you should need. Go and get one and live happily ever after. ;)

That to me is one of the big advantages of using a Mac. There are forums like this one with people who enjoy their Macs and are friendly and will help with problems or questions you might have.

Definitely sounds like a Mac is for you. I'm also a college student, and I switched in late 2004 (middle of my sophomore year). I couldn't be happier with the switch, and going back to Windows is definitely not in my future.

Thank you guys for all your replies, I will switch, as soon as I make the money this summer, can't wait! I also thank you all for your replies. This has been a great board to become a member of, and keep up the good work. I will do my best, when I am a mac man to give to the board.

BTW, I went over to my friends apartment today, just to use his G4 powerbook 17" while I waited for his call to pick him up. I plugged in my cheap microsoft optical, and just played with its OS. I found out what key chain is, SO cool. finally an OS that has stuff built in that PEOPLE WOULD NEED.
