My 2017 macbook pro's storage is ony 128G and I am planning to buy an external SSD drive:

Samsung 860 EVO 500GB SATA 2.5" Internal SSD (MZ-76E500/AM) .

On the website it also recommends the

Cable Matters 3-Pack 90 Degree Right Angle SATA III 6.0 Gbps SATA Cable (SATA 3 Cable) Black - 18 Inches.

Link for the Cable

Must I buy the cable? I am also attaching a picture of the adapter I am using for my macbook pro.

The cables that you linked to would be used if you were to put the SSD inside of a desktop PC. You’d use the SATA cable to connect the drive to the motherboard. It’s not meant to be used with an external drive. If you wanted to use that drive as an external drive you’d want to buy a USB enclosure for it. Something like this. Or you could buy an external drive that’s already in an enclosure. Something like this.

Thanks a lot! I am inserting the link for the SSD I bought. I guess this is the one already in an enclosure?
