Do I need to JB OS 3.0 first if I have the cooked firmware file already?

Thanks to some very nice MAC users (I am on Windows), I have the cooked firmware file iPhone2,1_3.1_7C144_Custom_Restore. My phone is running non-jb OS 3.0. Do I first need to use redsn0w to jb my OS 3.0 before restoring to this new cooked 3.1 firmware?

As I understand it, yes, your phone must be currently JB to use Pwnage Tool and 3.1 custom restore IPSW

Thank you for the reply. Since I already have the cooked ipsw file I think I dont need to use Pwnage Tool right? If that is the case, does my OS still need to be jailbroken first before restoring to the new 3.1 jailbreak ipsw firmware I have?

As soon as you upgrade to 3.1 (whether it's jailbroken or not) iTunes will ask you to update the carrier settings file which will enable MMS.
