Hello I’m pretty new to apple stuff. I used Windows and Android for the most of my life (used apple until iPhone 4). I’m a tech guy and always tried beta from Windows, but every time I used beta software I had to reinstall windows from ground to make it clean. Otherwise it would contain a lot of beta code and stuff when I upgraded to official release.

Is apple in the same way? If I try out iOS 15 and iPadOS15 beta 5 (or 6 if it comes this week), do I need to reinstall the whole phone and ipad when the official release is out? Will there be a lot of beta stuff lingering if I just upgrade from beta to release?

Thanks for any reply in advance!

No. To install the beta you just install a profile from Apple. When you’re done with the beta you uninstall the profile!

When you remove the profile your phone will only update when a higher build number public release comes out. So if you had 15 beta 4 and removed the profile, you wouldn’t get any updates until the public iOS 15 release, but then it would just update as normal.

Pretty much the same situation on macOS as well, since Apple can include a whole slew of internal settings you have no idea about, much like beta version of Windows. Apple might also install additional telemetry software on beta macOS, which is usually not the case for released version of the macOS.

The GM/RC (or public release coming from a beta build) usually ships as a full-sized update to testers. That‘s essentially your reinstallation.
