I took many pictures at 1600 X 1200 pixel res. Do I need to resize them to 1024 X 768 to get good 4 X 6 photos? I had the first set printed out and they were cropped big time, would that change if I changed the pix res to 1024? Will the quality be the same? Please help!

NO!

You do NOT want to resize them to 1024X768! That will ruin the quality.

You want to CROP them yourself. Do you have Photoshop or Elements?
Use the CROP tool set to 4"X6" and crop them that way and save. They will then be sized to what you need and you wont have them missing any part of the picture when you print.

If you don't know how to crop check out this link:

resizing changes the physical size of the image, while cropping cuts out a portion of the image and throws out the rest. If you want to keep the whole picture, resizing is the way to go.

if you only have a few images to resize I would suggest using a site like:
http://www.easyphotoresize.com because it will allow you to resize easily without buying any software.

If you have many pics to resize I would suggest getting a simple photo software.
