Hello, I have a 2020 27" iMac that has OS Big Sur 11.6.5 and when I plug in my iPhone 12 Pro , which is all up to date, it says there is an update needed on the iMac for it connect to my iPhone. I click "Not now" and still back up my iPhone to this Mac, but I'm wondering, do I have to upgrade to Monterey? Its the only update that I see, so im assuming that's why I'm getting the pop up?

Any risk to the ugrade to Monterey? Can I keep Big Sur and be ok?

That a lot.

No. (next ? is not a question) No, not if you back up first. Yes.

You're welcome.

(I see that you posted the same thing in the macOS sub-forum. That's a no no.)

Not completely sure, but I think that message only wants you to install some software on the Mac to make it compatible with a new version of iOS on your phone and not to upgrade your whole Mac operating system. Or at least, that has happened to me in the past and I am still on Catalina with an updated iPhone 12 Pro Max.

Thanks a bunch.

Sorry on the forum no-no. I wasn’t sure if that was a rule or not, now I know. Thank you.
