do i really need mozilla to download pwnage tool?

Dude, you downloaded a .dmg image that contains *one* file. Are you honestly telling us you don't know how to open a .dmg and copy a file out of it?
I'm just going by what I read..
and I read that you shouldn't download the ispw file through safari because it "auto extracts it"
I'm new to this, so I must have accidently put pwnage in the title instead of "ispw" which Im guessing is the firmware..
so thats my question.. do i really need mozilla for it?
Pwnage Tool and IPSW are two different things.
Open the .dmg and drag PT to the desktop and run it there.
Get a tutorial, as it is quite obvious you need one. Good luck.
If you have a Mac (I guess you do since you downloaded PT and it's Mac only) you just let iTunes Download but not install the Apple IPSW, then use PT to make a custom IPSW.
Like I said, get a tutorial or your next post will begin with "Help"

Megadon, seriously, if you can't figure it out by reading the information in the stickies and the iClarified tutorials, you should not be jailbreaking your iPhone. Maybe you could get someone who knows what he's doing to help you?

but I've been doing my own research, and the question I asked was a simple type o where I put pwnage instead of ipsw file..
I even said it after, and then both of you send me to a tutorial that right at the top says
"When downloading the IPSW file, it is best to download it with Firefox since Safari often auto extracts it!
thats all I wanted to know.
I know the difference between pwnage and the ispw, and I read the information on some other site, and I just wanted to know if someone can confirm it for me..
anyways thanks for clearing it up for me..
ps. I just found out about iclarified through you guys, so if I knew about the site I would not have asked..
I just saw it on some other tutorial that was on youtube, and I did google it and try to search it , but nothing came up regarding the use of mozilla over safari when it comes to ipsw file download..

i only use safari, but I just downloaded pwnage through bit torrent, so is that good enough? I heard safari auto extracts it..
or do I have to install mozilla download pwnage then uninstall mozilla again?

There is a situation where you download the .ipsw from a source other than Apple Software Update. Safari, by default, unzips the file and prevents it from being identified as an .ipsw.
You have two options:
Change automatically opening of zip files in Safari Preferences and just delete th .zip off the file.
Find the file Apple downloaded under iPhone Software Updates in your home folder.
Be sure you have an file that looks like a white Lego with a blue character.
I encourage you (unlike the others) to jailbreak and be free!

This is clearly untrue. When you wrote your initial post you did not know the difference between the PwnageTool and an ipsw, or else you would not have been confused. Nor had you read the sticky threads, because they would have made the distinction clear to you.
If you had read the sticky threads, you would already have known about the iClarified tutorials.
These kinds of replies kill me. Sorry for adding my two cents. It was a simple question that may or may not have been solved by doing a search.
What's really annoying is people come back and say "do a search" or "Google" or "read a sticky." While I agree, if you can find it maybe ask...but if some are so annoyed with these types of questions or don't want to help someone, simply just don't answer a post and move on. I mean for real.
