This is not a post to find a free copy, but I was quite surprssed when I just purchased my second mac, and was looking to use remote desktop client to operate my second mac. The software sells for about $300!!! Is this correct? Does it not come free with MacOsX?

I am still a mac newbie, and the main reason I'm not sure about all this is that windows provides not only a windows remote desktop client app free for its OS, but also a free RDC for use with mac (for remoting into a windows OS of course)...so I was quite stunned when I found that apple's software was (apparently) NOT free for download...

are there any older versions out there that may be free? Are there any similar programs that do the same thing? Basically, I have a powermac and a mac mini, and I want to remote into my mini to do some basic stuff, without having to install a kvm switch so that I can use the same keyboard...

one last note, both computers have tiger installed.

thanks!

Any VNC client does the same thing. Download OSXvnc for a good VNC server. Chicken of the VNC and a others make good clients.
