Do I want my MacBook running at 140° F or 6200 rpm?

With the release of smcFanControl 2.0 I've been forced to raise this question when I see my fan speed and system temperature sitting in my menu bar.

Is it better for my MacBook to run the fans at 1800 rpm and have the system temperature at 140° F or have the fans run at 6200 rpm and have the temperature at 100° F?

I would rather have 1800 with 140F. That temp. isn't even that bad.

I have the same problem and i hope nothing is going to melt under that temperature...i go to college and i need this mbp to last for 4 years at least.

Cooler is always better for electronics, but 6,000 rpm fan speed must be pretty noisy all the time. Isn't 140 degrees F the same as 60 degrees C? That's not too high.

The Core 2 Duo can go up to 100C or 212F before thermal management on the chip kicks in. If yours is staying around 140F under normal usage with minimal fans then that's pretty good I would say. You have nothing to worry about as far as the CPU goes.
