or am I doing something wrong or perhaps expecting too much?

I just hooked up my new Soundsticks II and they really dont get loud. Even before the Soundsticks the imac's factory speaker wasnt all that loud. Ive even adjusted the sound volume to all my tracks in itunes, and its still not loud.

My iMac G5 Rev. B's internal speakers are plenty loud for me. It's kinda hard to tell if yours is normal or not, considering I can't hear it.

But your soundsticks should be plenty loud, as they have an external power source.

Well here is one way to test the problem. The OP and some other iMac user should agree on some form of streaming audio content or .mov or .mp3 or whatever that is located on the internet and test it that way. It is still an objective test though. I think i remember a program that measured decibels, i will see if i can find it.

edit: AudioTest 1.7 might help the test. It is a shareware program i found on version tracker that plays various wave forms. Download it, wait for the registration timer to count down and hit "play" then compare the levels that are on the right hand side of the program. Maybe take a screen shot of the program to compare? This still wont test if the speakers output the same sound levels, but it will tell if some software setting is hindering it.

Did apple ever make a 17inch 2ghz imac g5?
What does that have to do with the question? Go to apples site and tell me, if the answer is no..I need to get my money back.

Thanks for all who attempted to answer the question.

I just realized there is a volume button on the actual soundstick ....umm they get very loud now :)
and yes I feel like an idiot for not reading the directions....:D

I'm duly impressed that you can castigate another user who replied to this thread and post this shocking discovery in the same reply. ;) Glad you found it, though!

I have the same speakers and I find them to be very loud on my imac (latest g5 rev). Maybe your speaker volume is low or the system volume isn't up very high.

EDIT: Whoops you already figured it out. Ignore this.

Nothing to do with your question - I was asking you one, i dont care if its got anything to do with your question or not.

The reason i asked was because the current G5s are 1.9 G5s. So i presumed that the previous version was less.

The current ones are 1.9 and 2.1
the older ones are 1.8 and 2.0

Just to elaborate... the Rev Bs came in 3 configurations:

17" ComboDrive @ 1.8GHz
17" SuperDrive @ 2.0GHz
20" SuperDrive @ 2.0GHz
