Do iMacs only do screen mirroring?

I saw this on the new imac page:

"# Mini-DVI output port with support for DVI, VGA, S-video and composite video connections via adaptor3

# Support for external display in video mirroring mode"

... Please can someone confirm the new imacs can do true dual display - if not the new iMac is going to be pretty useless to me, and I was just about to upgrade!

I don't need mirroring, I have a Samsung 245T I want to plug into it.

They can have extended desktops.

Yes, the Al iMacs can, however older model iMacs cannot.
