do iPad Pro 11 M1 and iPad Air 4 have pretty much the same picture quality? (other than the fact that iPad Pro 11 M1 has 120Hz display?)

for example, if I'm displaying the same high-resolution photo on both, side-by-side, will I notice a difference? or playing the same YouTube 4K video clip on both?

Display is brighter on the Pro 11" so I believe that will play HDR while the Air 4 will not.

Practically speaking though, I don't notice a difference between the Air 4 and Pro 11 (50% brightness) viewing pics taken with iPhones.

The pro has slightly better color and contrast. It also has perfect uniformity with no backlight bleed. That is a well documented problem on the Air. The brightness difference is noticeable. It’s a superior panel overall.

As an Air 4 user, I can confirm that it’s screen is “ok” for most uses, but not quite as good as that used on 11 Pro.

The differences might be subtle, yet “lighter” blacks and more yellow “whites” on Air 4, accompanied by the light bleed of different degree of annoyance, all make iPad Pro screens better.

IMO the screen is Air 4’s weakest spot, as the rest of the tablet is great.

I think backlight bleed is probably unit dependent. I have an Air 4 and Pro 11 and don't really notice significant bleeding on the former.

Pro screen is brighter, deeper blacks and more colour accurate. Is it significant? No, but you can definitely tell when you’re comparing them side by side

The Mini-LED iPad Pro 12.9 has noticeably deeper blacks. However, I kinda feel like the Air 4 and iPad Pro 11 are equally gray.

If you max out the brightness sure. But if your watching shows and stuff at a normal brightness, there’s a difference between the air 4 and the pro. I’ve had both, it’s definitely not a deal breaker either way. I wanted the extra ram and speakers more then anything. The M1 will prove to be the better long term soc as time goes on.

I never use max brightness. I tend to watch in a dark room so typically, brightness is at 20-50%. I have the Air 4, 2021 Pro 11 and 2021 Pro 12.9.

Haven't really compared them side by side but to me, the deeper blacks on the 12.9 is very obvious. I barely see any difference between the letterboxing on the display and the black bezels. It's almost like they blend together.

With both Air 4 and Pro 11, the "black" letterboxing is noticeably gray compared to the black bezels.

I do agree though. The extra RAM, storage, and other niceties on the 2021 Pro 11 are worth the relatively small price difference.
