Hi there

I use the Facebook app for the iPhone 4 quite alot in work over the office Wi-Fi. I was wondering can my employees monitor this? I also use other social media apps such as Skype and MSN which I have running all day! Can they monitor this.

They are using an Airport Extreme in work!

Is it simply a connection to Facebook servers such as an IP address or is it like a list of webpages such as the history in safari.

In essence I'm asking how iPhone apps connect to internet. Is it HTTP or access or via servers and IP addresses.

Thanks very much.

Stop stressing, your fine. I'm more worried if you are actually doing your job or are just playing around the entire time.

"my employees"

you're the boss?... niceeeee

I can't wait till I'm the boss so I can go back to doing nothing

Im assuming the programs are running unencrypted traffic.
Most apps will user ssl for the login and then regular unencrypted traffic for the content.
If so, everyone on the wireless network can use a sniffer and see what you're up to.

Depending on what kind of firewall they are running at their internet connection, yes they can usually see what you are connecting to. How well they can trace that back to your IP and figure out who's iPhone it belongs to depends on what firewall software they are running, how good their IT folks are, and how closely they monitor traffic.

Depending on your IT department, they can easily monitor what sites you are visiting.

Although seeing the content that you are viewing might take some effort, but the logging of the sites you are visiting is easily done.

When do you actually find time to work? Isn't that what you are there for?

Three posts of nothing but judgements. Proud of yourselves?

OP, yes they can monitor you, but whether they’ll bother is another thing. Most workplaces are more concerned with employees downloading porn or using streaming video or chat, since it eats up bandwidth.

Ha, ha if you're the boss what are the employees doing behind your back????

Maybe you could mask your playing around by mixing in a little work. That way it would be harder to track your activity. :D
