Do iPhone software updates accumulate on space?

Just wanted to know if each iPhone software updates 3.0 , 3.1, 3.1.3 accumulate on storage space or does one just overwrite the other?

On your computer, it saves copies of each, and you have to manually delete them if you want to. On your phone, it overwrites, and you shouldn't see any significant loss of space resulting from an update.

They overwrite. Although later versions may be slightly larger than prior versions...
