Hey guys,

If you subscribe to the Apple music free trial, and travel to another country, and need to change App stores, you will need to cancel and lose your subscription (trial) before you can change stores

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7105186?start=45&tstart=0

Be warned.

I laughed at the Customer Service guy when he said I had to cancel it, and if I wanted to resubscribe I needed to go on the paid subscription (i was one week into my trial)

This is not a problem if you use a new, separate AppleID for the second country. Then you officially are a separate customer and each customer gets a chance to one free three-month trial period.

is this like a long term move or more of a vacation? why would you change app stores?

just a vacation, needed an app for travel purposes, and only available in the local app store

It was never a problem before, took seconds to change regions. Registering a new apple id is not a good experience.

true, but wouldn't u then run into the 90-day transfer thing Apple does ?
Yes, but this doesn't apply to everything. You can still purchase songs and apps (or purchase or rent movies) using different AppleIDs. You just cannot download past purchases AND you cannot use iCML with more than one account (every 90 days) per device. But you can for example use iCML with one account on your phone and with another account your Mac.

If it is merely for getting an app, getting a gift card and using it to create a new account is not a particularly big thing. Get the app and then log out of the account, the app will stay on you device/computer.

I had to create a new apple id, using a local credit card. The point is, you should not have to create a new apple id, just cause apple did not think the trial through, switching regions takes seconds, registering a new apple id for one app is plain bad user experience.

Worst, was that customer services suggested to cancel apple music trial and told me to sign up again and pay for the service, they did not even mention the workaround that you flagged.

Cheers, this is good to know

Changing regions on an existing AppleID must be a new thing. I thought the region/country was linked to the method of payment. When I added my second AppleID, I am pretty sure, changing the region on the one I already had was not an option.

You could be right, I never got past the warning message saying i had to cancel the apple music. If i wanted to make a purchase, I am sure I would have had to add a local credit card .

Thanks for the second apple id idea, i actually have 2 and initially did not think to change.

I have to change app stores because an app I use is in the USA store and not the UK Store.

I created a USA ID and can swap stores however, each time I swap I am logged out of my iCloud music library and all of my offline music files have to been re-downloaded again when I return to the UK store.

On your iPhone stay loged in with your UK id. Only use the US id in iTunes on the Mac/PC. That way you can easily swap between stores, download any apps you want and sync them to your iPhone.
