My most vital use for a smartphone is syncing on the road "To Do's" and Appointments with my office Mac. I don't care about anything else. Palm based phones are no longer available. Will other smartphones from Verizon sync with ICal or must I go Iphone?

I have used Apple's isync app to sync iCal and address book with my old Motorola E815 flip phone (on Verizon) in the past. What smartphone are you talking about? I believe there is now a Mac app for syncing with Blackberry...

I'm not on Verizon but my Nokia N95 syncs fine with iCal.

I want to replace my Palm Treo (without data plan) but don't know what yet. At this point, I don't know if I need a full featured smart phone to just sync calendars or not.

Blackberry requires Leopard, but I still have to use Tiger to still run classic (os9).

We have a relational database program with 15 years of data that requires OS9 and there is no upgrade, yet. An alternative would be to have a second boot drive, just for Tiger and this program. I guess that would work and solve a lot of other problems.
