I would worry about not getting a good enough signal or no 4G LTE and only 4G. Seems easier to just have the local content on your device already.

Some do, some don’t. Network performance is different in other countries and people stream what ever they like when they want.

I have used the iPad cellular to stream video since the first model. In general video streaming works well in the areas I am in. I have rarely had a problem with streaming not working well.

Nothing wrong with having both streaming and local content options....

I rely on mobile data to stream live content as a YouTube TV subscriber. Gotta say that I loved going out on early Sunday morning paddles with my canoe club out in Waikiki and returning to the park to watch NFL playoff games and have a case of beer with my buddies this season... Sometimes you just gotta be somewhere but want to catch something live like that and streaming is the only way.

I rely on local content that I load onto my device when I travel for work or leisure.

I think a cellular iPad is required, I get 4G LTE everywhere. I had to make a doctors appointment last week, drove 90 miles there and 90 miles back watching Netflix the entire time. Never lost LTE once.

It gives your iPad versatility. I can drop my cell phones sim in my iPad and text from my cell number too. And use the internet anywhere.

Being tied down to WiFi only is no good.

Good lord, how to you think half the Soccer Moms of America keeps the kids quiet in the SUV?

So did you decide on the cellular version? I definitely couldn’t go WiFi model now, after being spoiled and all.

Well right now I have T-Mobile One with the add-on ONE Plus International that has unlimited 4g lte hotspot tethering.

I got it before it ended.

Oh ok, well for sure then. People always rely on there 4G LTE phones. The same goes for a tablet. I’ve still gotta get a sim for mine, I only have a SIM card through Walmart family mobile for my phone. It works fine in either device though, just tired of swapping back and forth.

The biggest problem with having a cellular iPad is you still can't download apps larger than 150GB on the app store :( Tethering is a way around this.

150 MB.

And I don’t think that’s true anymore. I download updates of games over cellular which are often more than that size. Have you tried this recently?!

Sorry yes 150MB I meant lol.

Yes I tried it last night and it told me it was over 150 MB :(

This is the correct answer. LTE generally works really well in my country in the bigger cities, to the point where I won't care if I'm on WiFi or cellular. Downloaded content is of course better if you know you might have gaps in connection or varying connection speeds.

Tethering isn’t always practical. Say you can’t trust public WiFi due to sensitive work material but also need your phone to manage work calls. Tethering drains both devices. If you’re on your phone and tethering at the same time not only is your connectivity slower but your phone battery depletes at a faster rate.

There are more uses to an LTE equipped iPad than just streaming video and downloading apps.

I downloaded PUBG when I was walking around Walmart. It was the night I bought my iPad. It was 4,014MB, or 3.92GB. All downloaded on cellular. I had no idea of any 150MB limit. I’ve never ran in to any problems.

I just downloaded an update of 172Mb so this is definitely carrier dependent than iOS / Apple.

I’ve been streaming video on my grandfathered unlimited data plan for years. So yes, some of use do, even on LTE. By the gigs. :)

I still get the warning that the download is more than 150 but it always downloads anyway. That hasn’t been an issue in a long time for me.

I use LTE on my cellular iPad and I haven't had any issues with dropped signal. My iPad isn't on an unlimited plan (I will NOT pay more than $10 a month!) so sometimes I will tether my iPhone to my iPad and just use my phone's unlimited data. I think the technology has come a long way from the days where you would just drop service due to coverage.

I store movies locally, but on trips I sometimes want to stream a show or a movie that I don't already have on my iPad. I also like to catch up on shows when I'm out of the house.

You drove and watched Netflix or did you mean something else? I hope something else....people die looking at texts for crying out loud. I can't imagine why anyone would think it a good idea to drive and watch movies.

I prefer to have it all stored locally on my iPad. If I’m at home I use WiFi and if I’m out I tether my iPhone to my iPad. I have 100GB data a month and I never even come close to using it all.

If you don’t have an LTE iPad, you can’t download anything at all without WiFi, so why not just connect your LTE pad to WiFi for large downloads? I do that all the time.

I use LTE as my only form of internet service where I live (boonies), and let me just say, streaming really isn’t an option for me here. I have used it on trips and stuff, where the service was much faster, but out here, it would probably take me 20 hours to watch a 2-hour movie. It’s HORRIBLE!

I haven’t tried my DirecTV option though, where I can stream from there and not have it go against my data (I have unlimited, but of course it throttles it after 22 gb). I do wonder if I might get slightly faster streaming, even if it was a lower quality picture than HD. I guess I’m just not desperate enough to watch anything to try it out.
