I was very pleased to see that Ecosia has been added to the default search options in the Safari settings with iOS and iPadOS 14.3, and I was wondering how many people actually use it.

It’s a search engine which uses 80% of its profits to plant trees, how great is that? Using it costs us nothing, and the search results are pretty good since it uses Bing under the hood, so why not help the planet with something that we do every day anyway. Plus it is privacy friendly, unlike Google.

They are up to 123.6 million trees at 90 sites around the world, mostly places which are suffering from erosion and deforestation, and their projects are in partnership with local organisations and communities to make sure the trees are looked after. They track their sites long-term with satellite imagery. They also do things like regenerative agriculture, use local trees, plant mixed forests and other good stuff.

Just overall wonderful that they are able to gain more traction this way, well done Apple!
