I have another photos question.
I set up the faces in my iCloud photo library on my iPad, and it worked great.
But on my iPhone it is showing some faces but not the same as my iPad. Has anyone gotten the people to sync?

I'm wondering how this will work as well. The calculation are done local but will they then sync to all devices? And I already have faces set up on my mac and it syncs to all my devices. I wonder if they will resync with the new way or just merge it.

Hoping it will sync cause I don't want to spend a bunch of time on my iPhone when I already ironed it out on my iPad.

You said faces have synced from your Mac? That is interesting, so faces should theoretically sync between iOS devices too. Obviously this is a first beta so I don't expect it to be perfect but if there is a way to get the to sync I'd like that.

The face metadata syncs now (iOS 9 and OS X), I don't believe the actual recognition data syncs though. That whole separation/privatization of data and all.

So, it seems like because of privacy face detection is all local and will not sync across iCloud Photo Library on devices?

I think it should. The algorithm that "looks" at the pictures is local. But the data it creates should be able to sync and be encrypted just like the photos that are on iCloud. Just like it works today with iOS 9 and El Capitan.

Yeah, I imagine it will work in future betas. For now I'm just sorting the faces out on both my iPhone and iPad so that I can use the feature on both.
[doublepost=1466018030][/doublepost]Update: I just finished sorting faces from a library of around 2500 photos on my iPhone. I use iCloud Photo Library so this is the same one I sorted on my iPad this morning. Anyway, I noticed that while the recognition was mostly the same, there are a few faces recognized on the iPhone that aren't recognized on the iPad and the total number of photos under each person are the same for most people, except a few.
This has made me come to the conclusion that because the actual facial recognition is done locally on each device, the results are going to differ slightly from device to device and therefore it cannot sync because each device has different results. That's my guess. It could very well be a feature that isn't yet implemented, but I think face recognition syncing is not going to be available due to privacy.

Yeah, the proactive data is treated the same way. Between all the devices face recognition/tagging should be really thorough though.

Mhh that is strange. I this thread https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/photos-memories-ai-results.1977556/#post-23016439 Feenician says that the data syncs between iOS and Mac:
On the faces piece, yep, it seems to have imported that metadata from OS X photos right off the bat - I guess it was in iCloud all along. It also has further opportunities to add and refine it right on iOS.

No. I wasn't kidding about those release notes. This functionality is currently not working. Which it says in the release notes you should all be reading before running pre-release software.

I swear to god half the threads in this forum are answered by reading the goddamn release notes.

Are the notes publicaly available yet? I am not running the beta, may apply for the public beta but haven't decided. Usually I do the Mac OS public beta.

This is probably true, but most people here are nite developers, so they don’t have acess to these.

That's because half the people on here don't even try the software and just react to a screenshot they saw or something they read without knowing anything about it.

It's not hard to google iOS 10 release notes or macOS Sierra release notes. One does not need direct access, it's widely available on the internet. The issue is people don't put in any effort to inform themselves.

Link? I couldn’t find it.

Craig confirmed on The Talk Show that all professing is done on device and by each device. They are hoping in the future to sync it but for now each device has to do the calculations for every photo.

Has anyone found a way to change the key photo for a face? I can't figure it out. I think it makes the most sense to use the contact picture if that face is a contact but it doesn't seem to work that way.

It's in the share menu as an option: "set key face"

Kind of an off topic question, but I guess your contacts need to have a photo so the Photos app can scan and match from it, right? Thanks in advance.
