Do the new mid-2010 Mac Pros run fairly quietly and evenly?

I have had problems with a MacPro that is being replaced. The sound of fans , especially when in idle or low usage load, sound very uneven and varying in their tone and modulation. Quite disturbing in a quiet environment. Do most people with the newer MacPros have fairly quiet, even running, machines, noise wise.?

I can't speak for others, but from what I gather some on here have experienced quite a bit of noise problems with new 2010 mac pros.. My mac pro was originally a 2009 with 2009 parts.. All I did was gutted the 2009 boards(backplane and processor board) and spent 300 to get the two 2010 boards while using the same 2009 case and case parts..

Seems Apple might have chosen different vendors for their internal parts, but since my 2009 parts haven't given me any problems.. I can't speak for noise with my machine, but most who got 2010's brand new will tell you that yes, there were some reported noise concerns.

I have a 3.33 GHz 6-core 2010 Mac Pro with 4 internal drives (2x1TB WD Caviar Blacks and 2x1TB WD RE3 drives in RAID 0). This thing it practically dead silent when in use or at idle. It replaces a 2001-vintage dual 800 MHz G4 PowerMac with dual 60 GB drives, and the noise from that was much more noticeable. I have read comments that the 2010 Mac Pros have some noise issues, but, FWIW, I have absolutely not experienced that. At the moment, I am probably not pushing it to its limits for prolonged periods. My heaviest use involves photographic image processing (with other apps running), so others with different usage patterns may have different experiences. But this is my experience.

No contest. We ran those machines for years, and they were known as the 'vacuum-cleaners'. If that's what you're coming from, anything else sounds dead quiet by comparison.
